Ulcerative Colitis sufferer, chronic anaemia FIT test 7

Hi,

I have UC no flare ups for 5 years, recently suffered with headaches, low blood pressure, blood tests showed chronic anaemia , slightly raised cholesterol. FIT came back 7, Calprotectin normal. Gp referred me fast track cancer screening ? I’m really scared , CT Colonography in one week plus another FIT test kit sent and returned. I’m really worried and confused, no appointments with Gastroenterology Consulant , one telephone call 2 years ago

  • The FIT test is for blood in your poo - which is a symptom of UC as well as bowel cancer.
NICE guidance is to err on the safe side and put you on a cancer diagnostic pathway.
About 95% of patients sent down this pathway are found not to have cancer.
You’re bound to worry - but better safe than sorry.
    Good luck
