  • Hello and thanks for posting

Mohs surgery is available on the NHS, but only in specialist centres.

It is generally reserved for more complex or high-risk cases (for example: difficult edges, recurrence, or very delicate areas). The nose is a common area where this type of surgery can be considered (because of appearance and structure). But not every nasal BCC needs Moh surgery.

A skin flap on the nose is common after removal of a BCC. Your surgeon may feel that this standard surgery is suitable for your BCC. I can appreciate that it may feel a little scary, but surgeons often get good cosmetic results.

You can ask your specialist if you can be referred to a specialist centre that offers Moh surgery. We have some general information about getting a second opinion on our website.

BCCs grow slowly and very rarely spread, and it’s not unusual to wait many months for surgery.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
