Tivdak - confusion over whether this treatment has been approved by NICE

Hi,

I have been given 3 options for my next treatment, one of which is the possibility of Tivdak.

However  my consultant states that NICE is unlikely to approve this for general use. I have read the final draft statement from NICE and I am reading this as they have approved it .

Could you clarify this please .

  • Hello, and thank you for getting in touch.

You’re right that Tivdak (tisotumab vedotin) was recently recommended by NICE this month. However, there can sometimes be a short delay between an announcement being made and the treatment becoming routinely available on the NHS. The final NICE guidance is expected to be published on 12 June 2026, and this is when it should become more widely accessible.

In the meantime, Tivdak may be available through the Cancer Drugs Fund. This is a way of giving patients access to promising new cancer treatments while they are still in the process of being fully approved for routine NHS use.

Your consultant may have been referring to the current situation locally, as availability can vary slightly depending on how quickly services are set up to offer a newly approved treatment. They are the best person to talk through your treatment options with you again, including whether Tivdak might now be accessible in your circumstances.

I hope this helps to clarify things. Please do get back in touch if you have any further questions. If you’d prefer, you can also speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, we’re available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on freephone 0808 800 4040.

    Jemma.

  • Hi, thank you for confirming all of the above. When the final NICE guidance is published do all facilities have to offer Tivdak?

  • Hi there and thanks for getting back to us

Yes once it's been fully approved and rolled out into the NHS all trusts should have access to it. Treatment decisions are made by specialist doctors involved in a patients care but if the consultant thinks a patient is a suitable candidate for tivdak and they meet the eligibility criteria they should be offered it.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
