Ribociclib and fatigue - unable to have dose reduction due to high risk of reoccurrence. Has anyone else been in this position?

Hello,

I am currently in remission for breast cancer.

Grade 3 breast cancer Lymph node positive (3).  Treatment chemotherapy (7) , surgery, radiotherapy (15)

I have been taking Ribociclib 400 mg 5 cycles so far for 21 days 7 days off.

I am struggling with fatigue have asked about a dose reduction and I was informed I am too high risk of reoccurrence so therefore should try to stay on this dose.

Would like to ask others of there experiences taking Ribociclib, I know each case is different but was wondering is it common to change dose or have breaks in different circumstances? I am due to take this for 3 years for preventative reasons.

Thank you to anyone who has any info about this topic.

  • Hello Mazza10 and thank you for your post.

Thank you for sharing how you are feeling. It sounds like you have been through a lot with your treatment, and it is understandable that you feel tired. Many people taking Ribociclib do get fatigue, and this can be hard to cope with.

It is quite common for people to have dose changes or short breaks from Ribociclib. This can happen for different reasons, like low blood counts or side effects. Everyone is different, and doctors try to find a balance between giving enough treatment and helping people manage day‑to‑day life.

Your team know your medical history best, so it is important to follow their advice. But it is also okay to keep talking to them about how the fatigue is affecting you. Sometimes they can offer ideas to help, or check again if the dose is still right for you.

Meanwhile we have information about managing treatment fatigue on our website which you may find helpful.

I do hope that you find what works for you and feel like you have more energy soon.

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Kind regards

    Tina
