Thickened node.

I had invasive Lobular Breast cancer 2021. 5cm, 1 micromet,I had mastectomy, radiotherapy, zoladex,Anastrozole and zometa. In 2022 act picked up 3 enlarged lymph nodes in Axilla in opposite of my bod, biopsy was clear. The axilla has been tender ever once and I have been worried but was made to feel like I was just over reacting, now 4 years later CT showed one thickened Axilla. The oncologist said she wanted to do another biopsy but thought it may be scar tissue ( I’m not sure how as my surgery was on the other side of my body) .I am now in panic mode and won’t find out for a month. Are there any reasons that a node can be thickened other than cancer or this amount of time? Or should I just brace myself?

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your current concern.

Unfortunately, we are not able to give you a clear answer to this. Skin and body tissue can change over time anyhow as we age, and scar tissue or nearby can become more thickened. In order to get more definite information, doctors will want to do a biopsy of that area of tissue, even if they think the overall chance of it being cancer is low.

I hope that this gets addressed soon, and goes well for you.

    Best wishes,
