Bowels& Bladder

I am being treated for over active bladder. I have just realised, after  being to toilet for bowel movement. I always check motions. I noticed pooh was a rather large, odd motion. Noticed this a few times, then I realised , it was from my breakfast.. Granola,  grains and  and seeds.. Can this be what is pressing on my bladder. ???

  • Hi CannieAnnie and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to read that you have an over active bladder. I can appreciate that this can make life difficult at times.

An overactive bladder is usually caused by how the bladder muscles work. Rather than what you eat.  The bladder muscles contract too often, creating an urgent need to go to the toilet.

Having said this constipation can cause an overactive bladder because large or hard bowel movements can irritate your bowels and put pressure your bladder worsening overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms like urgency and frequency, as gut and bladder nerves are closely linked.

Granola, grains and seeds are considered high in fibre which are good for constipation.

It’s good that you are checking and noticing changes.

If you are worried or notice pain, bleeding, or big changes, it’s best to tell your doctor.

  • Can you survive bladder cancer

  • Hello CannieAnnie, and thank you for your further post.

Thank you for letting us know about your upcoming appointment. It’s positive that you have a date, as this will give you more clarity about the next steps.

It is completely understandable how difficult and worrying this time can feel. Many people describe feeling out of control, and that uncertainty often leads to anxiety. These feelings are very normal.

Having bladder cancer does not automatically mean someone won’t survive. If the cancer is found early and hasn’t spread, treatment is often aimed at removing it completely. Even if it has spread, there are still treatments available, and many people live well with cancer for a long time.

It’s easier said than done, but try to focus on one step at a time rather than thinking too far ahead. This can help reduce feelings of being overwhelmed.

If you’d like to talk things through, please call our helpline. We’re here to support you, and you can always get back in touch with us after your appointment if you need more information or reassurance.

Wishing you all the best for your appointment,

    Jemma
