Vulva Biopsy

I've recently had a biopsy and I still haven't heard about the result . GP referred me as she was sure I have lichen sclerosus but couldn't rule out precancerous cells or cancer hence the biopsy . The nurse I saw said she would only do biopsy if she felt it was necessary . As such I'm a bit anxious . I have phoned hospital and left voice mail and also called GP but they have heard nothing . Timescales were very vague . Does anyone know how long in NHS Glasgow it takes to get results ?

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are going through this, waiting for results is very difficult.

It is not unusual for biopsy results to take 4-6 weeks. If it has been longer than this do contact your GP again.

Sometimes cells do need to be reviewed and reported by different people, or sent to other laboratories for investigation.

We have more information on VIN, a vulval skin condition which the doctors may have wanted to check for.

Take care and if you want to talk to the nurses call 0808 800 4040, lines open mon-fri 9-5.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you so much for getting back to me . Much appreciated .

  • Hi Trsp, I am sorry to hear you’re going through this. I had a vulval biopsy 9 weeks ago (querying melanosis/melanoma), I’m based in the North West and I’ve still not had my results. I’ve been reading these forums a lot as you could imagine, and a lot of people are waiting at least 6 - 10 weeks to hear anything back. I am completely and utterly gobsmacked by how long the waiting times are. Apparently it’s due to delays and professional shortages. I have health anxiety so struggling a lot mentally with this. It’s nice to have these forums to connect and share concerns. I’m hoping everything goes well for you and your results come back quickly.

    Hi there

It is just awful the wait that people are having to endure . All the while trying to convince yourself you'll be fine ! It's very difficult to put it to the back of your mind and carry on as normal . Sadly all we can do is wait and know you're not alone and there are lots of people in similar situations albeit it's ridiculous and worrying . I hope you hear soon too and that all is well . Thank you for reaching out . It does make a difference and feels supportive when someone can empathise . Take care x
