Hi ,I have just got out of hospital after Pancreatitis and gallbladder infection ,it was awful the surgeon came to talk to me about having my gallbladder removed but I decided against it until I know more about it ,I asked him about whether having gallstones etc can cause cancer because I'd just read that ,but he said it was very very rare so it put my mind at ease .

I'm sorry to hear this - pancreatitis and an infected gallbladder is an awful thing to have. I suffered from pains for some time & then was rushed into hospital with an infected gallbladder. They kept me in & it was removed. I was brilliant for 12 months & then the same pains started again. Turned out to be a stone stuck in my bile duct. Had an ERCP to remove it but later that day was back in hospital with pancreatitis. Also got pneumonia so was in hospital for 3 weeks and it took a year to recover (lost 4 stone). I'm now fully recovered & have had no problems over the last 3 years.
Cancer from gallstones is very rare - there is more chance you will get poorly again from them infecting your gallbladder, so I would strongly think about it's removal as it could set pancreatitis off again.
Thanks for your concern Angie ,yes its an awful pain and there's no let up until its brought under control ,I have quite a large Gallstone and the Surgeon said the only way to get rid of it is to have Gallbladder removed but by the time the pain had gone I wasn't desperate to get rid of it ,you have been through so much even after removal but after all you went through you finally were cured ,if it happened again I would definitely have it removed so I'm preparing myself now because I know it can come on suddenly ,there's no stone in the bile duct at least so we will see what happens ,thanks for sharing your story ....
