Groin associated pain

Afternoon,

My sister has a metastatic left front lobal lesion with primary left lung cancer, also intra abdominal mets and lytic L5.

Over the last 4 weeks she has walked into a hospital and now is wheel chair bound with severe pain in the groin its a horrific pain,

she can no longer shower, use toilet facilities with our aid, her life has become unbearable, today she has described what she says is a clicking in

her groin and the pain is worse than ever, would this be related to the cancer or could this be a totally separate injury?

kind regards

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your sister's situation. This must be an incredibly difficult time for you all.

As nurses, I’m afraid we are unable to give a medical opinion about your sister, as we are not involved in her clinical care. Her specialist team are better placed to advise you further as they are familiar with all her medical details.

However, the worsening pain she is experiencing and the new clicking sound in her groin could possibly be related to her cancer. When cancer spreads to the bones, it can weaken them , especially in the hips and pelvis. This can sometimes leads to a fracture where the bone breaks or partially collapses. This could explain her sudden worsening pain and loss of mobility. But her team would need to clarify if this is the case.

I’m not sure if your sister is being supported by a palliative care team, often they are known as Macmillan nurses. They are experts in controlling cancer symptoms such as pain and can provide emotional support. If she doesn't have a palliative care team involved in her care she could ask her GP or hospital team to refer her.

I hope this reply is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
