Fast tracked for cancer so have had an ultrasound and a hystroscopy and a biopsy. The ultrasound showed a thickening of 6.6mm. The hystroscopy showed no polyps or fibroids. Got to wait 3/4 weeks for results but today three days after the biopsy I am spotting brown I’m convinced I’ve got only a few weeks to die. I have pain in my knee back shoulder all over the last day. • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your past breast cancer and can appreciate your concerns now awaiting results following a biopsy to check out a thickened womb lining.

Unfortunately no one here can say what the results will show so sit tight as best you can for now but please try not to let your mind run away with itself.

Having a thickened womb lining isn't uncommon and in most cases the cause won't be found to be cancer. Because you have had cancer in the past it is natural to be worried this is cancer again but that really may not be the case. Take things one step at a time and put to the back of your mind until you get the results.

Of course if you are struggling or the discharge continues do speak with your doctor so they can assess you to manage this in the right way.

I hope you also have friends and family to support you whilst you wait.

Take care and you know we are here if you would like to get back in touch with us. You are also welcome to call the helpline on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

  • Hi I am still waiting for my biopsy results and it’s been over two weeks I am assuming this means it is bad news as I would have heard if it was good news by now. The anxiety of waiting is so bad.

  • HI Ohnonotagain,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am not one of the nurses, but I noticed your post and appreciate your frustration, as I have had 2 cancer diagnoses within a year of each other.

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself back and waiting for results again. Please don't place any significance on how long it takes to get your results back. This bears no significance whatsoever on the results. This is usually an indication that your consultant or your laboratory are very busy and running a little behind. If you were told that it will take 3-4 weeks to get your biopsy results, then this is likely to be when you will hear. I know that this is always an anxious wait and hope that your new symptoms are all due to the anxiety rather than anything sinister. It is very common for us to imagine all sorts of additional aches and pains at this stage, but thy usually settle down once we get a diagnosis. Try to hold on for a little longer and don't catastrophise,

Waiting for results is always one of the worst parts of our cancer journey. Try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping busy, whether with work or pleasure. Try to steer clear of consulting "Dr Google," as much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This will only serve to scare you further and will serve no useful purpose.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are awaiting biopsy results and appreciate what an anxious time this can be for people.

Unfortunately it can take time for results to come back and the length of time you wait has no bearing on what the outcome may be.

Hang in there as best you can for now and try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves until you have all the information.

I hope you know more soon and that everything works out okay for you.

    Take care

    Naomi
