  • Hi Darren, and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are waiting to have a camera test, which looks at your bowel (colonoscopy). This must not be easy.

Waiting for tests can be stressful and cause anxiety, and many people feel they do not have any control over what is happening to them.

It is important to know that having a high FIT result does not mean it is more likely to be caused by cancer. All people who have a FIT test result of 10 or above will be referred to the hospital to have a colonoscopy. This is so that doctors can examine the large bowel closely and take some samples (biopsy), and although they will be looking for cancer, they will be looking for other bowel conditions such as inflammation or polyps. As Margaret Mary has said, most people who have a colonoscopy will not have cancer.

Many people worry that the colonoscopy will hurt. Everyone's experience will be different; some people have no problems, but for others, there can be some discomfort. You will be offered sedation to help with this.

I hope this helps in some way. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, you are welcome to give us a call. We are available between 9am and 5 pm Monday to Friday freephone 0808 800 4040.

You can also call the MIND helpline for support with any anxiety you may be having.

  • Heĺlo i had my coloscopy of thursday i was told it was not bad i was also removed fronthe 28 day pathway which i am told that is good?

These were the results could soneone plese help with what the treatement maybe? Im told its sent back to the doctor do i need to contact my gp?

These were the comments on the report if could please help me with them the lady that did the colonscopy also said i had nothing to worry about

There mild inflammation at the distal rectum(biopsis taken

In the distal sigmoif theres a ?polyp/?inverted diverticulum with the areas surrounding it appears to be inflammed.a single biopsy fron the tip of the ?polyp was taken

That i dont undrlerstand at all

The right colon also appears to be midly inflammed hence a right and left biopsis taken to exclude microscopic inflammation

I was told they could see no signs of cancer

But if someone could please help interperate these for me be very grateful

    Thankyou

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about you needing a colonoscopy although it sounds like nothing suspicious was seen, which is reassuring.

Unfortunately we can't interpret test results for you so do talk this through with your own GP and what this may mean for you.

From what you say the person carrying out the colonoscopy saw no signs of cancer. Its sounds like there may have been some areas of inflammation and possibly a polyp ( which is a growth) and are quite common. They have takes some biopsies that will be examined under a microscope just to make sure nothing else is going on as standard practice.

Speak with your doctor when you can where hopefully they can put your mind at ease further.

    All the best

    Naomi
