Goblet cell adenocarcinoma

I had my appendix removed at the start of July. Four weeks later I received the news that my biopsy confirmed a grade 2 goblet cell adenocarcinoma tumor on my appendix. By surgeon is hopeful that it is a T1 tumour. In the following weeks I had a procedures and scan. I received feed back that my colonoscopy showed no concerning abnormalities, my CT showed no free fluid in my abdomen however my local hospital declined to discuss my PET-CT with me. I understand my cancer is really rare and only 1 in 1 million people get this cancer so I understand that my local hospital have now sent all my results to hospital for them to formal stage and make a plan. My local hospital have advised me that I will be discussed at hospital on the 8th September however I'm likely not going to be informed of the outcome until the 17th September. I honestly don't know how much more my anxiety is going to let me hang in here and I'm concerned that no lymph nodes where harvest at the time of my appendectomy and don't understand how they will be able to stage accurately without knowing this information. Due to these tumours being aggressive and unpredictable I'm also concerned about the amount of time this is all taking and the effect that may have on my over all outcome.

Any advice or words of wisdom welcome.

  • Hello Claire99 and thanks for your post,

I can understand that this must be a worrying time for you but unfortunately it is important that all your tests and scans are thoroughly reviewed at a hospital that has some experience of this type of rare cancer. It is important that the doctors choose the most appropriate treatment based on their assessment. Formal meetings when cases are discussed usually only happen once a week.

Your case will probably be discussed on the 8th and then it may well be discussed in your own hospital on the following week hence the delay but of course I can't be completely sure as I am not involved in your care.

I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting yet another week but I am sure that one more week before you are seen will hopefully not have an impact on your overall treatment.

I would stay away from google which is so general and does not refer to your own individual situation. Try and focus on

    preparing yourself for treatment.

Try if you can to keep yourself busy and your mind occupied until you know more.

You are very welcome to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses. the number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
