Breast lump - scared

Hi. Since I turned 40 in July, I've noticed a hard round lump on my left breast that is more prominent when I am lying down and when i raise my arm. It is very movable and I can see it move under the skin when i move it. It seems to be linked to my menstrual cycle as I'm fairly sure it does shrink after my period but am still a bit worried. Any help and reassurance would be appreciated. I will wait until after my period and if it hasn't changed I will go to the doctor.

  • I have noticed no other changes in my breast apart from this and am otherwise in excellent health.

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

Anyone who notices something new or different for them should get checked out by their GP. They will review the lump and decide if it needs investigation. If they think it does, they may refer you to the breast clinic to get the lump looked at further.

Tell the doctor what you have felt and noticed, alongside your monthly cycle, as other things can happen in the breast that aren't cancer. But, it is still good to be checked, so do go along once your period finishes

Take care, and hopefully you will know more soon. If you want to speak to the nurses on the helpline the number is 0808 800 4040, lines open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
