Cancer sweats?

Hi,

I have melanoma diagnosis with spread to lymph nodes, had surgery just over a week ago and dressings changed yesterday (quite a large skin graft needed and excision was LARGE) . I have been suffering with night sweats for quite a few months but over the last week I've begun uncontrollably sweating during day also ( even during menopause I didn't have it to this extent) . It's so bad I'm soaking! It runs down my face in rivulets!

Is this normal with my diagnosis or should I contact someone?

Thanking in advance guys x

  • Hi Chimelle,

I'm not a nurse but I've been a melanoma patient for many years. As the nurses won't be back until Monday, I just wanted to reply to your concerns.

Uncontrollable sweating isn't usually a symptom of melanoma or the surgery you've had, especially if you've had the sweating for some time & it's getting worse. Do you react to general anesthetic? It could maybe be that if it's got worse since the surgery? I'm assuming you've been offered adjuvant drug treatment for the melanoma but it hasn't yet started? If it had, it could be a side effect of the drugs.

Do you also have a temperature and is the surgical site red & hot? If so, you may have an infection & you need seeing immediately for antibiotics. Even if you don't have a temperature etc, I suggest you contact the Cancer Nurse - you should have been given their contact details & they will be able to give you some advice. It may be that you are suffering from something unconnected that has just happened to occur at the same time as your diagnosis and surgery.

Meanwhile, I've sent you a friend request. If you feel it helpful to chat, just accept the request & we can chat by private message. Good luck and I hope you get the problem sorted quickly,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
