Benign result

Hello

Last year I was diagnosed with Breast cancer, it was caught early. I went through the process and had the cancer and Lymph nodes removed.

I have Radiotherapy and am now on Anastrozole.

A few weeks ago I was called for my yearly mammogram. I was on holiday and received a call from the Breast unit, they had found something in my other breast.

It was the day of my 1 year cancer free appointment when they called. We were hoping to celebrate that evening but I was so scared and anxious.

I has an appointment in 4 days to go back to the breast unit.

I have a mammogram, scans and a biopsies.

I have received the results and its benign, which is brilliant news - but I'm really struggling with this news and can't seem to lift myself out of this anxious feeling, I'm exhausted and so low.

  • Hello Jinny123 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. This must have been so hard for you to go through further tests for another potential cancer. It is understandable that this has been very unsettling for you.

It may be helpful to make an appointment with your GP to let them know how this has all made you feel.

Sometimes some talking therapies or some counselling may help you get through the next few weeks.

We have some information about the different types of counselling that is available. You can be referred by your GP but if you are referred you may not be able to see someone for a while and you won't have a choice as to who you can choose.

We have some information on our website about how to find a counsellor yourself.

You may find it helpful to look at Maggies. You can visit this charity on line or in person and they have clinical psychologists.

It really can help to talk through your feelings.

I hope some of these links will help. Do give the nurses a ring if you want to talk things through.

The number to call is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open 9-5 Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Dear Jinny,

Of course you are feeling exhausted. It’s an emotional rollercoaster. Try to take the good news at face value. Doctors always like to err on the side of caution so that’s why they called you back in for tests. Put your one year cancer free milestone at the front of your mind and push the niggling doubts to the back. Enjoy the moment and give yourself some time to breathe.

    All the best…

  • I will, thank you for your support

  • Thank you for your reply, I will take a look at the councelling. Unfortunately, there isn't a Maggies close by for me to attend.
