Hi LadyPaul,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
Many of us worry about our cancer spreading before we have our surgery. Cancer clinics throughout the country are busy places and they don't always have a space to operate on us immediately. You don't say what type of breast cancer you have. Priority is usually given to those with some of the more aggressive strains. Some of these start with treatment before surgery, whilst others go straight in to surgery. You will have been waiting just over 2 months, when you have your surgery. By the time we have had scans, tests, biopsies, etc and decided upon treatment options, this is about the normal waiting time for most of us. Your consultant would not have scheduled your appointment for the end of June, if s/he felt that there was any likelihood of your cancer spreading within this time frame. With Grade 2, HER negative diagnosis, you have every chance of a good recovery.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Thank you that’s reassuring.
grade 2, invasive ductal cancer.
I am not a doctor, but this does seem to be about average for invasive ductal cancer. Try to place your faith in your care team, who do this day in day out and I'm sure that you'll be fine. I hope that all goes well on 30th June.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi there and thanks for the post
I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and can appreciate you being keen to have your surgery.
As Jolamine has already said to you it takes time for all the tests to be done and then to be booked in for surgery and isn't unusual to have to wait.
It can be unsettling not having treatment straight away but it is unlikely to affect the overall outcome, so try not to worry.
I hope the surgery goes okay for you but do get back in touch if you would like to. We also have our helpline on 0808 800 4040, weekdays 905 if you prefer to talk over the phone.
All the best
Naomi
