Lung cancer

My partner is experiencing every symptom of lung cancer but refuses to see a doctor because they are scared. They are a 57 year old smoker. Severe asmatic, cancer history in family.  Experiencing shoulder pain for 6 months, losing weight, severe fatigue, tingling in arms and hand, nails rounded. I try to encourage them to see a doctor but the fear is real. How long can they go on ignoring these symptoms

  • Hello,

I can appreciate your concern. It is difficult when a loved one doesn't want to see a doctor. You could try and encourage them and say that it will help them to be less stressed if they seek help and this does reduce ongoing worry and concern. Symptoms are not always related to each other either. These could be due to different medical conditions, don't assume they are necessarily all due to cancer. Any condition, including cancer, is best treated as soon as it becomes a health concern. Therefore there may well be treatment that can help. Perhaps concerns can be raised at their next asthma review at the GP surgery.

I hope you find a way forward.

    Best wishes,
