Coping with anxiety after being diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer

Hi , I was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer 6 weeks ago.

I am getting used to it but get times when I’m quite anxious, especially at night and it’s stopping me sleeping properly .Anything you can suggest?

Many thanks

  • Hi Hurdleman

I suffer the same anxiety and insomnia. I'm not by nature a worrier or anxious person, but this disease does get to me at times and the demons seem to come at night. By daybreak and morning coffee a more balanced perspective returns but am exhausted for rest of the day from lack of sleep. Nurse Tina has provided some good advice worth following up. Talking to other people about it seems to help, for me anyway. I have supportive friends and family too. However the anxiety is mine and remains.

  • Cheers Ed, much the same I’ve always been very laid back. Run my own business for forty years through thick and thin. Hard to adjust to being pretty much helpless when you’ve been the strong  one. Luckily like you I have great family and friends. Hopefully when our heads hit the pillow at some point we’ll find some peace.
