NHS app confusion

Hello,

looking to see if anyone can help me. I attended a GP apt for lumpiness in my right breast on 24th April. I had an apt at the hospital on 7th may where they found nothing of concern however they decided to biopsy a fibroadenoma I’ve had for 8 years as I am now over 30 and previous ultrasound was not done at that hospital. He said the ultrasound looks normal but due to age happy to biopsy. That’s all fine and I was told 2-4 weeks for result however on the nhs app it says I’m on a waiting list for “breast surgery” referral date being the day after my gp apt and last updated 4th may before my biopsy even took place. Called both GP and breast clinic and they have no idea why that would be as biopsy results not back yet as only been 2 days. Has anyone else experienced this?
thank you

  • t is never easy waiting to get results and hospitals can vary in the way their patients receive them. They can be given face to face, or by letter or telephone. But regardless of how someone receives their results from their doctor, there is no way of knowing what the results will show, so try not to over think things for now.

Easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help.

As I mentioned before you've had your breast lump for a few years, so it's unlikely the biopsy will show anything of concern. But you need your doctor to confirm this

I hope you know more soon and that everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi my query isn’t the exact same as yours but I’m not sure If someone could help me I’ve never been on this site until now.so I had my biopsy results Christmas Eve and was told at f2f appointment it wasn’t cancer but I have a rare tumour in esophagus. I looked on my nhs app yesterday to see the results which I got in person wich states granular cell tumour which I knew about but also states i have soft part sarcoma im worried now as I’ve been told I don’t have cancer and my app is saying i have. Thanks in advance for any replies

  • Hello MazB88 , and thank you for posting,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through tests recently. Waiting for both the tests and the results can be a very worrying time, especially over the Christmas period.

I completely understand how confusing and unsettling it must feel to see “soft part sarcoma” on the NHS app when you’ve been told your tumour is benign. Unfortunately, only the hospital team directly involved in your care can confirm what this means for you. As cancer information nurses, we’re not part of your medical team, so we can’t interpret your results.

If you haven’t already, it may help to contact the secretary of the consultant who is overseeing your care, as they may be able to arrange for the consultant to speak with you. Another option is to speak with your GP, who might be able to explain what the app is showing.

I hope you’re able to get clear answers soon. Please do get back in touch if you need further support. If you’d prefer to speak with one of our nurses, you can call our free helpline on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

    Take care,

    Jemma
