NHS app confusion

Hello,

looking to see if anyone can help me. I attended a GP apt for lumpiness in my right breast on 24th April. I had an apt at the hospital on 7th may where they found nothing of concern however they decided to biopsy a fibroadenoma I’ve had for 8 years as I am now over 30 and previous ultrasound was not done at that hospital. He said the ultrasound looks normal but due to age happy to biopsy. That’s all fine and I was told 2-4 weeks for result however on the nhs app it says I’m on a waiting list for “breast surgery” referral date being the day after my gp apt and last updated 4th may before my biopsy even took place. Called both GP and breast clinic and they have no idea why that would be as biopsy results not back yet as only been 2 days. Has anyone else experienced this?
thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sure it must be unsettling to see something like 'breast surgery' on the NHS App when your biopsy results are not known yet.

I'm afraid no one on here is going to be able to explain for sure why this has happened. A possible explanation is that it's an admin error. Sometimes these systems may automatically add a 'waiting list' status when any medical procedure like a biopsy is done, even when no surgery is planned.

It's good that they weren't concerned about anything when you attended the breast clinic. Fibroadenomas are harmless breast lumps and as you've had yours for 8 years, it's very unlikely the biopsy will show anything of concern.

I know it's easier said than done but try and sit tight for now until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
