NHS app confusion

Hello,

looking to see if anyone can help me. I attended a GP apt for lumpiness in my right breast on 24th April. I had an apt at the hospital on 7th may where they found nothing of concern however they decided to biopsy a fibroadenoma I’ve had for 8 years as I am now over 30 and previous ultrasound was not done at that hospital. He said the ultrasound looks normal but due to age happy to biopsy. That’s all fine and I was told 2-4 weeks for result however on the nhs app it says I’m on a waiting list for “breast surgery” referral date being the day after my gp apt and last updated 4th may before my biopsy even took place. Called both GP and breast clinic and they have no idea why that would be as biopsy results not back yet as only been 2 days. Has anyone else experienced this?
thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sure it must be unsettling to see something like 'breast surgery' on the NHS App when your biopsy results are not known yet.

I'm afraid no one on here is going to be able to explain for sure why this has happened. A possible explanation is that it's an admin error. Sometimes these systems may automatically add a 'waiting list' status when any medical procedure like a biopsy is done, even when no surgery is planned.

It's good that they weren't concerned about anything when you attended the breast clinic. Fibroadenomas are harmless breast lumps and as you've had yours for 8 years, it's very unlikely the biopsy will show anything of concern.

I know it's easier said than done but try and sit tight for now until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi.

i have received nothing from breast clinic since biopsy however i have an apt come through for 2 weeks time for a face to face follow up on my nhs app, is it possible benign results can be discussed in person? Given ive had it for so long i was assuming they would just reconfirm my initial diagnosis and now im really worried, it has been made worse that the apt came through on a Friday night with no opportunity to speak to anyone.

    thanks

  • Hi , I have the same in the nhs app it first came up after I saw the gp and they reffered to the breast clinic and its been up dated since I've had the biopsy but hasn't since the mdt so I'm not sure if it has any relevance to anything or not.

Benign results can be discussed in person I think that is usual practice to discuss any results in person.

May I ask if you can see anything that says about when you can see the results from the ultrasounds and biopsy results in the nhs app ?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

So my nhs app said I was on a waiting list for a breast surgery apt (now I know that’s what they call all breast apts) but this showed up after my biopsy however the date of referral was the date I saw the Gp so I called up and they said it was just delayed, it’s still there now. Then I got a notification on Friday I had a follow up apt, no phone call or anything and I was assuming the results would be by phone as they assumed benign as it’s a fibroadenoma I’ve had for 7 years and they saw nothing of concern on the ultrasound and said they would biopsy it because I’m over 30 now, it wasn’t even why I was there. So yeah now I’m stressing a little and planning to call the clinic tomorrow just for some clarification.

what does your app say? And no I don’t know anything about those results going on the app. I can see the letter from the hospital to the GP though.

  • Ah okay, on the NHS app for me in waiting lists it says breast Surgery and referral date is when I saw the nurse and it says waiting for an appointment.

Even though I've been to the clinic had the ultrasounds and biopsies , I'm awaiting my follow up appointment which has been down for the end of the month even though my appointment was weeks ago.

On the NHS app on the section that says test results and imaging, if I go into that and chose hospital ordered test it shows imaging reports and test results if I go into that I can see the date I will be able to see the reports from the ultrasounds and the results from the biopsy which is going to be days before the appointment that was arranged those weeks ago to discuss results / outcome etc

Which in my opinion does not seem right or best practise as people should not see the results before they have been discussed with them from the consultants expecially when alot of people will be extremely anxious.

I also have phoned the clinic many times but they never answer and haven't replied to my voicemail messages either.

  • Ahh, on my tests and imaging there says none recorded. Yeah I agree, it would certainly cause anxiety. Maybe they provisionally booked an apt as they don’t know how long the results will take and potentially be in touch sooner once they have them? It’s strange you cannot get through, have you tried speaking to your gp instead?

  • Okay , yes I thought it perhaps may have been that and according to the nhs it looks like they only had the mdt meeting last week so they may well contact before the end off the month, no I haven't contacted the gp I think I will do so tomorrow and mention it all.

Hopefully the results go well for you.

Thank you for the responses .

  • I can’t see any of this extra info in my app, where did you see about the mdt meeting?

yes, and you! Fingers crossed for both of us

    • Hi , it's odd isn't it unless it goes by trust or something.  I can see it in the section of hospital ordered tests in the imaging section it says MDT breast and says a date under it which was a day or so before it showed up on the app but it says it  won't show the report from it untill June.
