Stomach cancer

Hello. Im looking to get any advice or help on this please. My dad has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Doctors said he will be treated with chemotherapy only .Would anyone be able to tell me if that's a good or bad thing please?they said surgery is hard to do it because of cancer location also its spread a bit to he's pelvic area.

I'm just wondering if the cure is on the table with chemotherapy alone.

Thank-you for any advice.

  • Hello Rose779 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your dad.

It is difficult to be able to say too much without being involved in your dad's care and also not knowing much about his cancer.

You are better discussing this with your dad or getting permission from him to talk to his doctors or his cancer nurse.

If your dad has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer the doctors will want to see how well he responds to the chemotherapy. He will be monitored regularly with scans and blood tests and this will give the doctors a good idea as to how he is responding to the treatment.

If the cancer has spread as in your dad's case the aim will be to control the cancer for as long as possible.

We have some information on our website on chemotherapy for stomach cancer which you might find helpful to read through.

If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to do so.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
