Pain after a cancer kidney removal

My husband had his kidney removed due to cancer 6 months ago and has been getting a burning pain that seems to be getting worse. He has seen his GP who said it’s a water infection but he’s not had a water infection for 6 months! Trying to get hold of his oncologist but wanted a little re assurance on here that it has happened to others and is not cancer coming back.. Thanks for reading

  • Hi, I had my kidney removed 4 weeks ago and have a sickly sore pain in my stomach sometimes if I bend over slight it’s like a sharp pain. My consultant says it takes your insides 6 months too go back to normal. My back has Bern sore for the past 4 days too just trying to drink more water. I hope your husband gets some help. X

  • Hi Jo69 and thanks for getting in touch

I am sorry to hear about your husband and the pain he is currently experiencing.

Unfortunately aches and pains can be the result of many different things so one one here can say what may be causing this pain for your husband.

You are right in trying to get hold on his hospital urology team so they can also assess him as to what may be the problem. However if you are unable then do encourage your husband to contact his GP again and express your concerns to them.

Try not to over think this for now as this pain doesn't necessarily mean the cancer has returned but he does need to be assessed properly to rule something more serious out.

Please get back to us if you need or want to or you can call us on 0808 800 4040, weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

All the best and I hope things get better for your husband soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

Hi Thankyou for the reply.. hope you are on the road to recovery and the pain finally goes away very soon  xx

  • Thanks for your reply.. I’ve told him to ring the number you gave and hope he rings to get some advice. Think he’s worried so is putting it off..

  • Hi there

Sorry to hear you had a kidney op a few weeks ago and feeling some pains and discomfort. As your consultant has said it takes time for the body to heal and recover from surgery and it isn't unusual to feel some strange sensations and niggles along the way.

It is important to look after yourself as best you can and try not to over do it and avoid movements that cause you pain for a little longer.

I hope the back pain is improving now but if this worsens or you notice any other symptoms do let your doctor know, just to rule out an infection.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thank you Naomi for the advice.
