Treatment for advanced prostate cancer. What else is available for my husband? He has Parkinson's disease as well

My husband has prostate cancer metastases.  It has spread to the bones. He's had radiotherapy on his spine. The hormone therapy isn't working and it has spread further in the spine as well as in other bones. He also has parkinsons disease.  Is there another treatment available for him ? Anx if do what. Thank you

  • Hello Dizzycherryhead and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your husband.

It is quite difficult to be able to say what your husband's next treatment options may be without being involved in his care.

There are other types of hormone drugs that the doctors may consider using. We have a page on our website on

if your prostate cancer comes back which you both may find helpful to read through.

I am not sure if the doctors would consider giving your husband bisphosphonates to help strengthen the bones if he has not had this treatment before.

The doctors will also take in to account any pain or other symptoms that your husband may have in deciding what treatment to offer him.

You can read about other treatment options that the doctors may offer him. I am sure his team will take in to account his Parkinson's disease and the effect of any treatment on this condition.

You may both find it useful to read through the various links so you can then discuss his possible options.

if you would like to ring and discuss any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to do so.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Hi Dizzycherryhead, and a warm welcome from me, though I'm so sorry you have to be here, I too have metastatic prostate cancer which has spread to the spine, I can only give you my experiences my friend, and hopefully they may help with what questions to ask your oncologist, but please remember we are all different, I've had RT, and currently going through my third combination of HT, leuporelin +Xtandi, with chemotherapy to follow, though docetaxel is more commonly used, I will be put on cabazitaxel, then maybe lutetium 177 or radium 223, we have also been looking into the possibility of BAT treatment as my cancer is also hormone resistant, my very best wishes to you both.

    Eddie xx
