PSA

My husband has had continual rises in his PSA levels from 6.8 the latest being 12, he’s already had a biopsy 18 months ago and they said it’s all fine, but when he’s had the rides after that they’ve said it’s nothing to worry about but now it’s 12 should we be worried and what should happen now it’s this high all of his brothers have had prostate cancer and two having there prostrate removed.

  • Hi Alanorwill, and welcome to the forum, none of us are privy to your husbands hospital records, and it's not right to guess, though I would have hoped a rising PSA, along with a strong familial link, would be deserving of answers and an explanation to ease your mind, I would certainly be asking for one. but please remember there are a causes other than cancer, for your husbands PSA rise, best wishes.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your husband's situation I can appreciate this is a worrying time.

Not being involved in your husband's care we cannot say if you should be worried.

If your husband is concerned he could see if it is possible to speak with this consultant again by contacting their secretary or it may help to speak with his GP. Perhaps questions he could ask are why they think the PSA is rising and whether there is a particular level the PSA needs to be at before further action is taken.

I hope this reply helps a little. You are welcome to come back to us if you have further questions. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline we are available between 9am and 5pm , Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040,

    take care,

    Jemma
