What are the main issues with oral chemo - are they as bad as intravenous chemo
Phebie
Hi Phebie, I am on oral chemo tablets (Ribociclib) daily. I havent had any major side effects yet. This is only my second round. As I take three daily for three weeks, then have a week off and then start again. I suppose what chemo tablets you are on and I thin everyone reacts differently. I had intravenous chemo 12 years ago and that was definately worse. At least I havent lost my hair this time. Wishing you well. Let us know how you get on . Lee x
Hello Phebie and thanks for posting
Oral chemotherapy can be an easier and more convenient option compared to intravenous chemotherapy but it still comes with side effects.
You want to know if it's as bad as intravenous chemotherapy. I think this would depend on the drug, the type of cancer a person has, and how their body reacts to the drug as everyone is so individual in this.
Some people find oral chemotherapy easier because they don't need to spend hours in hospital getting intravenous treatment. However, others may struggle with side effects or find it harder to manage at home.
As I said, each person's experience is different and if you or someone you know is going through this then the best thing to do is to talk any concerns over with the chemotherapy team at the hospital.
I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
