Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer

Mum has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer that has spread to petrionium.
we have had very little information or support so far.
she is currently in hospital but the dr keeps saying they are respiritary dr so not a specialist.
From her symptoms we think she is stage 4. She has had significant fluid in lungs and stomach which is being drained. On oxygen perm. They have told us not well enough for treatment.

MTD meetings happened.

How do we find out any information? No-one had told us what stage it is it, how long we have left with mum, what that might look like etc. we have tried to ask but the respiratory dr in the hospital just says not his specialist so we don’t know where to turn to for answers?

  • Hello there. We had a similar situation with my wife where they wouldnot stage the cancer unless they do surgery but can only hazard a guess after the MDT had reviewed the ultrasound, CT and MRI scans. My wife had cancer found on the peritoneum and on surface of liver as well as ascities. The doctors maybe trying to stabilise your mother's condition before they can start the chemo treatment but I do recall with my wife's situation, her liver and kidney functions had to be between certain ranges before they could start with the chemotherapy. They did also say that a few weeks delay in starting treatment would not change the eventual outcome. The oncology department should had provided you with a contact detail for a clinical nurse and also an out of hours contact (usually within the same trust albeit at a different hospital).
