CA125 of 59

Hi I'm really worried about my mum .

She is 61 and had breast cancer 10 years ago. She recently thought she had long covid combined with her osteoporosis. She had been feeling nauseous for a while combined with pelvic pain, she decided to go to the doctors who got bloods done. It came back saying her CA125 is 59.  She has a scan booked for next Friday. However it seems like the longest week ever, online it says it could be ovarian cancer, lymphoma or peritonitis. The other things that have come up don't seem relevant for her age.

What else could it be?  If if is either of those cancers is it true it's only about a 35% survival rate after 5 years? Is it true that with peritonitis, it can really damage organs? Would 2 to 3 months caused much damage if it was?

Thank you so so much for your time.

So grateful for everything

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your mum being treated for breast cancer 10 years ago and the symptoms she is currently experiencing. I understand this is a worrying and unsettling time for you.

I'm afraid no one here or indeed google itself can diagnose or say what is going on with your mum. For now try not to let your mind run away with itself until you have all the information and facts from the doctors involved in your mum's care.

There are many different causes for symptoms and a raised ca125 indicates inflammation in the pelvic region, which again can be the result of lots of things, not just cancer.

I would encourage you to stop going online for now as this is not helping you. It can't tell you what is going on with your mum or what the future may look like.

For now the important thing is that you mum goes for the scan and go from there.

Keep yourself busy as you can to help pass the time and occupy your mind with other things if you can to distract your thoughts.

I hope everything goes well for your mum and you both know more soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
