Post op lump

Hi,

I had a lump and lymph nodes removed two weeks ago and a hard large lump had appeared under the area where the lump was removed. Is this normal?

  • Best to contact the breast team as advised by Sarah. I had similar and was told it was the normal swelling of the tumour bed but it turned out to be breast lymphodoema for which I am being treated at our lymphoedema centre. I also had a sizeable seroma under the arm which delayed my radiotherapy treatment. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish what is happening after the lumpectomy operation. Even the radiologist thought the swelling was a normal reaction to radiation! I hope you can get this sorted out soon.

  • Thank you. I've spoken to the clinic and told them I had to see the consultant Christmas Eve! for my results. I've decided to wait until then, as a new bra I've bought seems to have compressed the lump. I suffer from lymphedema in both legs anyway, but I would hate it to appear in my breast or arm. I've been told I will need to start radiotherapy in the New Year. Good luck with your treatment.
