Tamsulosin

Hi I am on active surveillance for localised prostate cancer and my psa level was 10.2 when diagnosed but has dropped to 7.7 and was wondering if this has anything to do with the medication I am taking .I was given tamsulosin to take to relax the bladder and have taken it for 4 months now

  • Hi Nigel, and welcome, Tamulosin can lower PSA levels, and does so for about 50% of guys who take it, I hope it' s doing the job it was prescribed for and have good bladder control, best wishes going forward.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

Whilst I can appreciate your question, I think this is something best discussed with your own doctor to get a better understanding about the reduction in your psa and if this is linked to the Tamsolulin..

From my understanding Tamsolusin can sometimes lower the psa level in some men with an enlarged prostate, so I would discuss this with your doctor in regards to your situation and how this may affect the monitoring of your prostate cancer.

    All the best
