Prostrate cancer

My husband was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in March, has had hormone therapy and radiotherapy, still taking tablets and is having injections every 3 months for life.    His cancer had spread to lymph nodes but not to bones or any other organs.     He is now having side effects maybe after the radiation and now has head pain this week, not before.   I'm so worried now, could the cancer have spread to his brain??

  • Hello Vale and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear that your husband is having treatment for prostate cancer.

I think that it is very natural to worry about new symptoms when they pop up. However, not all will be related to the cancer or the treatment. It is possible that the head pain your husband has is radiating (coming) from somewhere else in the body for example the sinuses. It does not necessarily have anything to do with his brain. The best thing he should do is to let his cancer team know so that they can find out what is causing it.

If he has the number of the cancer nurse involved in his care, he could call and leave a message, and someone will get back to him.

I hope this has helped. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care

  • Thsnk you Caroline. We contacted 111 yesterday as a rash- sore appeared near his eye brow area, pain worse at temple and head, been diagnosed with shingles.   Said more susceptible to it after radiotherapy, so been given tablets for 1 week.

His eye has puffed up and red, very painful and feels sick too now.

  • Hello and thanks for getting back to us.

I am sorry to hear about the shingles. Hopefully, the treatment they have given will help.  However,  if that eye gets worse please get it checked out

    Take care
