My 23yr old just had a similar experience and was referred under the 2ww.  We panicked as the GP could clearly feel it but the consultant said I wouldn't even send her tor a scan but I will because I know you will worry.

All was well, was just normal lumpy breast tissue.

I wish I would have pushed in the doctors office but she was very convincing saying it is only a cyst. It is large but does move a lot. Her period is due next week so if it hasn’t changed I will call back and insist on an ultrasound. Thank you very much for taking the time to message. X

I can appreciate your concern for your daughter but please know that the likelihood of her having breast cancer is rare so it is acceptable for the GP to see if this lump is a cyst, which is a much more common thing to have. The breast team may also want to see this too.

Sending your daughter to the breast clinic before it is seen as necessary could mean she has tests and investigations she may not to need have and this could cause even more worry. 

Also, even a delay of a few weeks, if she does find out she has breast cancer, is unlikely to make her situation worse.

Thank you Caroline, you have put my mind a bit more at ease. Her period is due soon so I will wait to see if it goes down, but have to admit am still anxious.  If it doesn’t I will book another appointment. Thank you for taking the time to reply
