Cervical stenosis

I  am post menopause and since having a cin3 result and positive hpv I have had two Letz procedures. I have been for a smear and now have cervical stenosis ( so no sample could be taken at this time).

I'm really nervous  now as have too go back to my consultant!

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation. It sounds like you have been through a lot.

Cervical stenosis especially after treatments like LLETZ is something that can happen particularly in post menopausal women, or when you've had more than one procedure. It means that the cervical opening has narrowed or closed which is why they couldn't get a sample during your recent smear test.

Your consultant will be able to talk through options with you and advise you further. Cervical stenosis can sometimes be treated with cervical dilators to help widen the cervix.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • How are you getting on? I'm in a similar position, post menopause, 2 LLETZ procedures, now waiting for biopsy results.... its very stressful.

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am responding as it has been a while since this forum user last posted.

It is difficult when waiting for results, but do remember that the cervical screening programme is about prevention and removing abnormal cells before they can mature and become cancer cells.

Take care, and if you want to talk to the nurses then call freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
