Lumpectomy

I had an operation last thursday to remove the Lumpectomy and a Lymph node very sore.

Just waiting for the results which is 4 to 5 weeks.

Everything has been a shock and i am very worried.

Also how soon can i wear a bra after my operation.

Thanks

Peggy

  • Hi, had my second radiotherapy today, weekend off then another three next week. The only thing I didn't like was stripping off with everyone stood watching. I was like, hello, can you not turn your backs and pretend to do something ? Very uncomfortable, had a different nurse today and she was better. Fiddled around while I got half naked. Yesterday the dimmed the lights but not today, dimmed lights are much better. My boobs a bit warm and pink but so far nothing else. I feel slightly sick after but it's only fleeting. I have my bone scan on the last radiation day so that'll be two visits in one day. Good job I live close. I don't really get upset but all of a sudden I can get very teary put of the blue. Today it was hearing a man ring his end of treatment bell. Its funny what sets you off when you least expect it. Perfectly normal though, we wouldn't be human else. It won't be long until you're in having it done so go have some fun in this little respite. Don't forget to moisturise your boob a few days before you go, it'll help x

  • Hi How are you doing? I got my bone density appointment on the 25th September. I also received a letter about the Radiotherapy going next Friday 13th going to have a chat and hopefully will start soon. September already where is this year going. I have remembered what you said about the moisturising. X

  • Hi Peggy and thank you for posting,

Firstly I just wanted to apologise it looks like your first post got missed by the nurses, which we are not sure how.

I just wanted to say I hope you have recovered well from your surgery. If you have any further questions for the nurses or would like to talk things through you are welcome to call the helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma

  • Hi Peggy, I'm doing great thankyou. My skin has held up really well from the radiotherapy, a bit pink and a slightly itchy nipple but besides that, nothing. The bone scan was easy peaky. Fully clothed, lie on a bed, unclip your bra if it has a metal clip and pull the straps outwards. The machine hovers over your mid section and done. Make sure none of your clothes have any metal bits. Friday the 13th, my birthday !! First visit is lying on the bed, arms up, laser marking the right places and 3 small tattoos. The one between my boobs looks like a blackhead, yuck :)) doesn't hurt, but takes a while. The actual radiotherapy later on is much quicker. You'll be fine. It's a waiting game but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Take care Peggy x

  • Hi How are you doing, I went on Friday the scan was ok i was trying not to move. My first Radiotherapy is Thursday 26th which i will be having it Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The day before i start the radiotherapy the Wednesday i have the Bone Density Scan. So next week for me is a busy week and week after.

Hope you had a nice Birthday.

    Take Care

    Speak soon

    Peggy X

  • Not long to wait then, just a few more days. It'll be over and done with before you know it. I've heard nothing about my bone scan so guess no news is good news ? It's all a bit daunting isn't it. Yes thankyou, I had a nice birthday, then a week on the Isle of wight for a break. Last night here and home tomorrow. Had a soak in the hot tub tonight, sat in the dark looking at the stars. Started feeling proper doom and gloomy, it hits every so often. Have to give yourself a swift kick up the bum when that happens. It's a lot on our shoulders, we'll get there though. Big hugs x

  • Hi Hope you are well? I had my last Radiotherapy on Wednesday. It was very emotional they let me ring the bell. They were all very nice and looked after me. Feeling a bit tired and sore putting the cream on. Like you not heard anything about the bone scan. Onwards and upwards now. It was lovely chatting with you. Take care XX

  • I had an oncology phone appointment and the nurse told me my bone scan results were good, no problems. On the Facebook breast cancer group, someone just got their results through and they had it a month before me so I guess there's a bit of a delay. I debated ringing the bell or not but a wonderful lady I met called Wendy talked me into it and I'm glad I did. We all deserve to ring it . Oncology told me to still keep moisturing, five times a day but I just do once as my skin is okay. Wishing you a speedy recovery, you'll soon be back on your feet x
