Lumpectomy

I had an operation last thursday to remove the Lumpectomy and a Lymph node very sore.

Just waiting for the results which is 4 to 5 weeks.

Everything has been a shock and i am very worried.

Also how soon can i wear a bra after my operation.

Thanks

Peggy

  • I wore a bra straight away after the op. I bought some post surgery bras from matalan that give really good support during the day and night times I wear post op bras from primark. No support whatsoever but brilliant for sleeping in and keeping you in place. I believe M&S do some too. It is a very, very, worrying time so try and find something to enjoy that'll help take your mind off the wait. I hope you get good results back x

  • Thanks very much for replying i have sorted a couple of bras out now.

Thanks again that answered my question x

  • Afternoon, hope you are well. I got good results last Tuesday no Cancer where they took the lump out and no cancer where they took the lymph node out.

Just waiting now to go for 5 lots of Radiotherapy.

    How are you doing?

  • That's brilliant news ! Do you have hormone tablets to take as well or just the radiotherapy. Only 9 more days until I start my radiotherapy. You must be very relieved. I'm so glad you had good news x

  • Yes i have hormone tablets as well.

How many lots or Radiotherapy do you have to have and are you on the hormone tablet as well ? X

  • Yes I'm on anastrozole for 5 years. I was so worried about the side effects that I waited five days before I started taking them. I had a slight headache for a few days and very slight nausea but that's been it. Everything has settled down but I know it could be a couple of months for it to be fully in my system. Everything seems okay and I worried for nothing. My radiotherapy is also for 5 days (26 Gy) no idea what the gy is but guess its how much is administered. I also have to have a bone density scan as the tablets can weaken your bones. Slowly getting closer to the end of active treatment.  X

  • Hi Hope your ok. I went to see them yesterday about the Radiotherapy just talking through everything. Its going to be the end of September when i have it. Everybody is so nice. I got a bit emotional again. Sometimes i am ok and then it just starts. Any news yet when you start yours? I am still waiting to go and have the bone density scan heard nothing yet. How about you ? x

  • Hi, had my second radiotherapy today, weekend off then another three next week. The only thing I didn't like was stripping off with everyone stood watching. I was like, hello, can you not turn your backs and pretend to do something ? Very uncomfortable, had a different nurse today and she was better. Fiddled around while I got half naked. Yesterday the dimmed the lights but not today, dimmed lights are much better. My boobs a bit warm and pink but so far nothing else. I feel slightly sick after but it's only fleeting. I have my bone scan on the last radiation day so that'll be two visits in one day. Good job I live close. I don't really get upset but all of a sudden I can get very teary put of the blue. Today it was hearing a man ring his end of treatment bell. Its funny what sets you off when you least expect it. Perfectly normal though, we wouldn't be human else. It won't be long until you're in having it done so go have some fun in this little respite. Don't forget to moisturise your boob a few days before you go, it'll help x

  • Hi How are you doing? I got my bone density appointment on the 25th September. I also received a letter about the Radiotherapy going next Friday 13th going to have a chat and hopefully will start soon. September already where is this year going. I have remembered what you said about the moisturising. X

  • Hi Peggy and thank you for posting,

Firstly I just wanted to apologise it looks like your first post got missed by the nurses, which we are not sure how.

I just wanted to say I hope you have recovered well from your surgery. If you have any further questions for the nurses or would like to talk things through you are welcome to call the helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma

  • Hi Peggy, I'm doing great thankyou. My skin has held up really well from the radiotherapy, a bit pink and a slightly itchy nipple but besides that, nothing. The bone scan was easy peaky. Fully clothed, lie on a bed, unclip your bra if it has a metal clip and pull the straps outwards. The machine hovers over your mid section and done. Make sure none of your clothes have any metal bits. Friday the 13th, my birthday !! First visit is lying on the bed, arms up, laser marking the right places and 3 small tattoos. The one between my boobs looks like a blackhead, yuck :)) doesn't hurt, but takes a while. The actual radiotherapy later on is much quicker. You'll be fine. It's a waiting game but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Take care Peggy x

  • Not long to wait then, just a few more days. It'll be over and done with before you know it. I've heard nothing about my bone scan so guess no news is good news ? It's all a bit daunting isn't it. Yes thankyou, I had a nice birthday, then a week on the Isle of wight for a break. Last night here and home tomorrow. Had a soak in the hot tub tonight, sat in the dark looking at the stars. Started feeling proper doom and gloomy, it hits every so often. Have to give yourself a swift kick up the bum when that happens. It's a lot on our shoulders, we'll get there though. Big hugs x

  • Hi Hope you are well? I had my last Radiotherapy on Wednesday. It was very emotional they let me ring the bell. They were all very nice and looked after me. Feeling a bit tired and sore putting the cream on. Like you not heard anything about the bone scan. Onwards and upwards now. It was lovely chatting with you. Take care XX

  • I had an oncology phone appointment and the nurse told me my bone scan results were good, no problems. On the Facebook breast cancer group, someone just got their results through and they had it a month before me so I guess there's a bit of a delay. I debated ringing the bell or not but a wonderful lady I met called Wendy talked me into it and I'm glad I did. We all deserve to ring it . Oncology told me to still keep moisturing, five times a day but I just do once as my skin is okay. Wishing you a speedy recovery, you'll soon be back on your feet x

  • Happy New year hope you had a nice xmas and new year. Snow has all cleared.

I have been busy with the grandchildren i have 4, 3 boys and a girl.

I am feeling ok, i have just started taking Evacal, it was after having the bone density scan, they said i had a weakening of the spine. I am going for another scan in 2 years.

    Hope you are feeling ok?

  • Hi Peggy and thankyou, yes I had a nice Xmas and new year. Very quiet but that's what I needed this year. No snow for me I'm afraid, living down in Plymouth right next to the sea. I think the salty air keeps it at bay. No grandchildren for me either but I live in hope. If they take much longer I'll be too old to enjoy them ;) I'm sorry to hear about the bone results but at least forewarned is forearmed. Fingers crossed the calcium tablets keep it stable. I was surprised my results were okay considering I'm 61. I bought calcium and vitamins but forget to take them. Hopefully xmas was a good one and you enjoyed those grandchildren x

  • Hi Haideesmum, Hope you are keeping well. Yes i am ok. Been busy we are moving house just waiting for the completion date. Hope to be in before xmas. Been on my feet a lot. I am on the letrozole for 5 years. Last week my ankle was swollen i dont know if i have done 2 much. I did read somewhere that the tablets swell your joints. Not sure. Nearly christmas. Take care.

  • Hi Haideesmum, hope you are well. My yearly mammogram is coming up go on Friday 24th April. I am a bit worried but last years come back clear.

Hope everything with you is ok?

    Peggy

  • Hi Peggy, mines due in June. Its a worrying time but I'm sure we will both be fine and if not, then at least it's caught early. It's been 2 years for me and I still feel like I'm trying to get back on my feet. It's a losing battle, the anastrozole has given me high cholesterol and thr statins have given me more joint pain. The gift that keeps on giving. You have to laugh or you'd cry. But we're here and surviving so can't complain. Good luck on your results, I'm sure you'll be fine ! Xx
