Net tumour

I have recently been diagnosed with a net tumour and carcinoid Syndrome. The primary they believe ( results of Octreotide scan tomorrow) is in my upper bowel. It’s spread so far that they can see to lymph nodes and my liver. They say it’s Grade 1 slow growing.

I am very uncomfortable under my ribs and I feel breathless all the time and so very tired if I walk up stairs or do anything really. No one seems to have an answer for me why I’m so breathless and tired if this is such a low grade of cancer currently.

I have started the octreotide injection.

  • Hello Romanticred and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the symptoms you have. Unfortunately no one here is able to assess you or tell you what the shortness of breath and tiredness is being caused by.

We suggest letting your doctors know that this is ongoing so they can take another look at you as to what might be causing this. And of course, if the symptoms worsen or become severe seek immediate medical advice by calling NHS111.

Cancer affects people in different ways so just because it is a low grade cancer doesn't mean it won't cause symptoms.

I hope you know more very soon and that the symptoms ease off for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Thank you Naomi

I have a possible explanation. I am in AF apparently. They suspect I have carcinoid heart disease which would explain the tiredness and constant palpitations. I’m having further tests.

  • Hello. I have a NET in my small intestine. I suffer extreme fatigue which is a symptom that I have had virtually since diagnosis and treatment. I have monthly injections of Lanreotide.  Hope this is of some help.
