My father in law has cancer and is on basic pension he is struggling financially and also not looking after himself. Is there any benefit he could claim and help he could receive. He doesn't have a lot of help so any advice would be appreciated.

Best checking with The citizen advice for a full benefit check or Macmillan who will also perform a check.
Is he claiming Attendance Allowance? If not, take a look at this website as it sounds like he will be eligible if he's not looking after himself. He doesn't need to use it for carers but he may find having at least a couple of visits a week may help him with bathing & changing into clean clothes etc. Citizen's Advice or Macmillan will help him complete the application form (it's not means tested). www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance
Hi Bullye. Your father in law might be able to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Hello and thank you for posting
Macmillan has a financial support team who can go through any benefits that your father in law may be suitable for.
There is information on their website as well as a helpline.
It may be that your father-in-law has a specialist nurse (CNS) or a Maggies/Macmillan centre where he is being treated who would also be aware of this information.
Take care and if you want to discuss things with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Sarah.
