Feeling worried

I am feeling a little worried and scared to go to the doctors and look silly.
I have been struggling with right shoulder pain on and off for maybe 6 months, and recently realised it is worsened when I drink alcohol. The last time I drank was just 3 gins with dinner and I was sick- not drunk at all.
The pain in my shoulder worse when I lay down and is like a dull achy feeling that feels like it goes down my arm.
I struggle with shortness of breath but I have put this down to being less fit than I have been in the past.
I also struggle with fatigue and brain fog, and just struggling for energy when I am out and about.
I have today been reading about my shoulder pain, and as you maybe shouldn’t I have found lots on Google that has made me worry.
I have a lump in the top of my neck on the right hand side.

i have now worried myself googling things. And feel silly ringing the doctors and sounding like I have self diagnosed. My doctors very quickly shut things off but I really need to be listened to for my own piece of mind.

please let me know what I should do or how to make the doctors listen

thanks

  • Hello Lizzie and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn that you are worried about your health. Many people contact us because they are concerned that the symptoms they have might be caused by cancer. We are unable to diagnose you and the best advice we can give is to go and see your doctor.

Although this can sometimes seem frightening, in most cases the symptoms will be caused by something else other than cancer. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out to be on the safe side.

I know you are worried that the doctors aren't going to listen. We have some tips about talking to your doctor on our website which I hope will be useful for you. There is also useful information on the Patients Association website.

Take care, I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
