Hi - my sister has advanced stage 4 bowel cancer that has spread from her bowel to the lining of her abdomen / stomach. It seems to be growing at quite a speed - she is young, about 50. She already has a stent in but there is a further partial blockage due to the growth. They are planning to put another stent in and her treatment has changed from cure to contain. Surgery is no longer an option for us according to the latest meeting of clinical professionals. I am not doubting their diagnosis, but what options do I have to get a second opinion. To explain, I imagine decisions are made on the basis of risk vs reward vs resources treatment takes up. I want to know if there are any options available to me that give us a chance - any chance - that might have been dismissed for whatever reason. I have one focus which is on my family member whereas medical professionals have multiple focuses that they have to balance. I would just like to be as informed as possible before the fact rather than finding out options once it’s … too late.
Yours, clutching at straws. :(
