Hi, my sister was diagnosed with linitus plastica of the stomach with ovarian cancer and lymph node cancer 4 weeks ago. The only symptoms she presented with were some acid reflux and a weight loss of approximately 2 stone through being sick after she ate. She has spent the past 3 1/2 weeks in hospital and has just been moved to a hospice with a view to wanting to go back home. They have withdrawn all feed as it was making her sick. She has a pleural effusion and some ascites. She has already had 10 litres of ascites drained a week ago. She has cachexia and weighs around 45kg. In wanting to move home she has had all iv removed and has been given a morphine patch. She is exhausted and although she can still move to get to the toilet and sit outside in the sun (when there is any) she needs assistance for showering and is incredibly weak. I know we are on end of life care - my question is how long does this kind of situation go on for before the inevitable? She is able to take small sips of water as her fluid intake.
