Meningioma surgery

Am struggling to get to grips with my diagnosis, is meningioma surgery a common practice and are the odds in my favour ?
I am 47 years old with a benign tumour close to my brainstorm that needs to operated on this year.

So many negative thoughts going through my mind, will my heart handle the trauma etc, etc.

Part of my wants to leave as is and have whatever time I have left with friends and family but this is just my reaction to the news at this time.

  • Hello Cornish pasty and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

I can understand that fear of the unknown and what to expect can be very unsettling.

We don't have doctors here that can give a medical opinion about your condition.

Treatment for meningiomas is dependent on whether they are low grade (slow growing) or high grade (fast growing). The doctors also take in to account where the meningioma is in the brain. You can read more about types of meningiomas on our website.

If you do have concerns about your operation then do discuss this with your team. They will have reviewed your case and decided that this is the best treatment moving forward but it is important that any concerns that you have are discussed.

You could always go and discuss this with your GP. Your GP should be up to date with any decisions that have been made at the hospital.

If you would like to discuss this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
