is this normal

I was diagnosed with breast cancer the end of 2022. Surgery followed Radiotherapy and a 5 year preventative treatment. Now cancer free.  Just need a bit of advice in the last couple of months my right breast sometimes feels sore to touch as though there is an infection in place. I am also experiencing throbbing pain like shockwaves through the breast when I  lie down  Not sure if this should be happening and could it mean the cancer as returned?. Also I was told by my cancer nurse that I would have a Dexa scan yearly to check my bones however I have been told by my doctors surgery that this is 2 yearly, is this correct?

  • Hello Bee2022 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your past treatment for breast cancer and appreciate how having some breast pain now is worrying you.

It is important that you speak with your GP or breast care nurses about this so they can assess you as to what may be going on. In most instances breast pain on it's own isn't a sign of breast cancer but do get it checked out when you can.

Dexa scans should be carried out 2-5 yearly depending on risk.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
