I am sorry to hear about the worry you have.

I can see that when you look online, some studies have looked into the effect of proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole is this type of medication). However, I am not sure how valuable or useful they are especially as people are not told to stop taking omeprazole before they do the FIT test.

You will have an opportunity to talk with the hospital team before you have a colonoscopy done, so do mention it to them then.

So does this mean my resukt 129 could in fact be higher and not showing in my test due to taking ppi’s?

I take omeprazole and i had a fit test of 168 so i doubt it does 

What was the outcome for you if you don’t mind me asking? Did you have a colonoscopy?

Yes i had a colonoscopy they found a 5cm tumour i then had a CT scan they said it hadn’t spread, i then had an operation a week later it was six and a half hours it was done by key hole my surgeons were brilliant, i had the operation on the 11th of march and i have been home for a week now , never had any pain with the operation at all still haven’t , i have a reversible bag fitted, the whole process from see the GP to having the operation was a just over two months, I certainly cannot knock the NHS , so if it is the worst you will be fine

As Caroline says there are some studies out there to suggest taking PPIs may affect the reading but there is no way of knowing how this may have impacted your result.

The important thing now is to discuss this alongside any other symptoms you are having with the hospital team. Then you can be properly assessed and any further tests be carried out to give further information about what may or may not be the cause of the blood in the stools.
