I'm worried about having a biopsy for prostate cancer

I'm worried about having a biopsy for prostate cancer?

  • Hello Johnnywin and welcome to the forum. I don't know your reason to be worried but can tell you a little about having one, if it's embarrassment, don't be, the Drs and nurses are professional and friendly and will have done hundreds before. There is a little discomfort with the procedure and a little mild stinging feeling but nothing that hurts though you may pass a little blood afterwards. Or is it about the possible diagnosis, have you had a scan and the results require a biopsy to help with diagnosis and you are worried, I can understand your worry, every guy going through tests is worried and frightened it's normal, but if you have cancer, it's not going to go away and if it's caught early you may not even need treatment, just 3 monthly checks, and if treatment is needed remember 98% of guys with prostate cancer will not die of it, take care.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that you are worried about your prostate biopsy, but it is the best way for doctors to get the information they need.

Tests for prostate cancer often involve blood tests, scans, and a biopsy to help diagnose and know exactly what treatment may need to be given.

Others who have been in your position may come forward with their experience, which may help you, but do remember their situations are individual to them.

Take care and do get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
