I am sorry to hear about your close relative. This must be a difficult time for you all.

The treatment decisions about your relative will be made at a formal meeting called an MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) meeting where all the doctors involved in their care meet to discuss a patient's next steps. This will include looking at where the cancer is, how aggressive the cancer looks and a patients general fitness. You can look at this on our website on treatment decisions.

There are other treatments that the doctors may consider such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Have a look at the main treatments here.

Everyone's situation is very different and each case is considered very individually. The doctors will also take in to account what your relative wants.
