Kidney cyst “mass”

I had a scan for a suspected fatty liver and the ultrasound picked up two cysts on my right kidney. These  I am told had a solid “mass” within, so the chap sent me for an immediate CT to “grade” them?

In your experience can these “mass” be fairly typical and nothing to be concerned over, or should I prepare myself for some possible bad news? I’m told result will be sent to me GP in two to three weeks and as you’d imagine this time will go all but too slow!! Any advice gratefully received.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Waiting to have a CT scan and the results can be very stressful, and it's natural to feel worried. But I’m afraid until the results are known no one can tell what this mass in your kidney is. It may be nothing to be worried about but it needs to be checked out just to be sure.

Waiting in circumstances like this is never easy but I’m afraid there is no real way round this. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. But until you know more it’s natural to worry.

I hope you know more about your situation soon and that everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you want to talk any of this over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank You so much for your support and advice

  • I am in the same position as you. I’m waiting for the results of MDT as I have two masses on each of my kidneys.

  • I was like you they found a mass on my right kidney in  March 2021 which was cancerous  I had a partial nephrectomy in August that year I’m now nearly 3 years clear ( in remission ) the last scan was in January and there was no evidence of a re occurrence. , so what I’m trying to say is it is treatable with a good outcome … I’m here to prove its,  hard not to worry but try not to

  • Was the mass large ? Did your doctors do any tests before deciding to operate ? Thank you for your reply.
