On going pain in Stomach area

Hi let me explain, following feeling unwell, weight loss, and Stomach pains in August 2023,had cat scan, mri, ultra sound etc admitted my self at hospital after a struggle they admitted me...3 days later they removed my appendix cancer and cut out half my large intestines and removed 16 nodes after a 7 hour op.Released from hospital and recovered at home and Started chemo january for 6 cycles.I have better movement now and can walk upstairs better etc and feel improved...I have been told cancer shall probably return which i am ease with..My question is after the ramble all through this time from i have had am still having terrible stomach pain non stop which i would say is a 7/10 or 8/10 discomfort wise..Recent scans showed no return of cancer atm....Has any one had or having any of the same problems, which along with the Chemo side effects is a nightmare..Bit long winded i know but any comments shall be appreciated.

  • Hi there I have been experiencing the same type of symptoms

just a question did your symptoms come and go mine are not constant but when they come on

  • Hi Ryan ,since this started i have never been out of pain 24/7 i have spoke to Top Doc and she changed tablets.

The operation pain has gone although i have to be carefull movement wise.

Hope it all works out for you...btw i am seeing Specialist via phone next week.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain that you have been experiencing. It must be unsettling for you that your pain is continuing.

It is good to hear that all your scans were clear after your recent chemotherapy. It is however difficult to give an opinion as to why you are continuing to get this abdominal pain and it is important if it does continue that you make the doctors aware.

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread or you start your own then you make get more responses. It is worth baring in mind that everyone's situation is different and it can be difficult to compare one person with another.

If you are in touch with your specialist nurse then do talk to them or your team about effective pain relief. You could also try and keep a pain diary to monitor when you are getting the pain for example before and after eating.

It is important to try and build up your fitness taking short walks to start off with and then building this up as you go on. Often exercise can help ease any discomfort you are getting and can help with an effective bowel motion.

I am not sure if he pain is worse before or after eating and you may find  adjusting your diet has an effect.

Both Macmillan and Bowel Cancer UK have produced some information on late side effects after treatment which you may find helpful to look at here and here

If the pain is continuing then it is important to let your team know so this can be investigated and anything serious is ruled out such as a blocked bowel.

I do hope that as time goes on this will settle down.

If you would find it helpful to chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thanks for reply as the First comment says it is 24,/7 pain not related to eating in fact since troubles began the pain has been present.

The Pain never leaves although the healing of op is a lot better but unrelated but this is unrelated or seperate pain. The Cancer Slecialist has twice changed tablets and now i am on Mebeverine with no effect.

I have a Phone Consultation tomorrow with Specialist and shall raise subject again.

Not sure why they have arranged the Call having had a hospital visit to her about 3 weeks ago which she said Scan why clear..?

    Thanks agin..
