Alternate or any Targeted therapy for Advanced Prostrate Cancer ?

Does any one know of any other treatments for  Advanced Prostrate Cancer in the right pelvic Lymph nodes  , other than just Hormone treatment that i have been offered

  • Hi and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.  It does sound like this is a difficult time for you. As a nurse team, we are unable to give you a medical opinion about treatment options as we are not part of your care team. If you are unhappy with your care and are looking for a second opinion we have information on this here.

Anything offered by your doctors would depend on where in the pelvis the lymph node is, how close it is to the prostate gland, and how many lymph nodes are affected. Your specialist or cancer nurse specialist (CNS) would be able to clarify this for you as they know your situation. We have more information on metastatic prostate cancer on our website here and information about locally advanced prostate cancer here.

We have a clinical trial database that is designed for the public to search. You may like to search for clinical trials for men with advanced prostate cancer here. If you find a trial that looks appropriate, your doctor can then send a referral to the doctor running the trial at your nearest participating centre.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina

  • Hello Stiga and a warm welcome to the forum though sorry you have to be here, I have APCa and had hormone therapy with radiotherapy. my cancer had metastasized to iliac lymph nodes in pelvic area so radical RT, increased dose over a wider area was my treatment. Stiga my RT was a year ago and I have met many guys with APCa since and most had the same treatment. A few had chemotherapy instead of RT, and a couple had HT+RT with brachytherapy. I am pretty sure i never met anyone who just had HT. Can i ask how long you have been on HT, as everyone has HT for up to 6 months before RT starts, as CRUK nurse Tina says, talk to your CNS, they should be able to answer your question, good luck and take care.

    Eddie

  • Hello Eddie thanks for the reply , unfortunately i had only 3 months of HT as it gave me Angina? ,  so it was stopped back in 2020 i also had 24 RT sessions up until about the end of January of 2020 , for my now APC i have  only been offered HT one of the new second generation ones, i have talked to the CNS and they will not budge from what has been offered , I know this is absolutely out of order , i know RT was on the Urology Surgeons letter to the Urology team but the Consultant Urologist refuses to give me RT or any other alternative , i now having read you had RT for APC that i must seek a second opinion , they did not act when my PSA went for 0.05 to 2.5, if you do not mind can you tell me where you was treated which Hospital , if not in here then by private message , i`am utterly now convinced i`am up against Ageism and Treatment by Post code + their cost cutting , i say treatment by post code as i asked for a Targeted therapy and things like brachy therapy , i also asked about the new High frequency new Ultrasound treatment but they said it is not done here, they have railroaded me and i also think they are not telling me how bad it is , please can you tell me where you were treated , best regards

  • Hi Stiga, I do not know why you have not been offered alternative treatment, though as i have a failing heart my options are limited. I do know they can't target the area of your body that had RT before as the damage it would cause would be severe,

    Eddie

  • Hello Eddie , thanks for the reply , i have been researching the Ultra Sound High Frequency method , but that would mean paying to see another Consultant who could then send me to where ever it is that they do it, i will also be looking into the Clinical Trials as the Nurse mentioned,  i`am very sorry to  hear of your conditions, it must be very very hard for you.

  • Thank you Stiga, I am doing surprisingly well, I hope you find a treatment that helps, take care.
