Chemotherapy

Hi,

I am due to start chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Please could any share their experiences.  I'm a nervous wreck, unsure whether to carry on working etc... scared of the side effects etc.

Is the pain really bad?

Any experience would be much appreciated.

Thank you

  • So pleased that you got your PICC line sorted so quickly. Hopefully this will take the stress out of starting your treatment again on Thursday. Sending you hugs and will be thinking of you on Thursday.xx

  • Hi, so sorry for the late reply.  I became so ill that the treatment on that Thursday had to be cancelled.

I collapsed and ended up in an ambulance. I had my first full chemotherapy session today so I really hope that the side effects are minimal.

    How are you getting on?xx

  • Hi, sorry for the late reply.

Thursday had to be cancelled as I ended up collapsing and sent to hospital in sn ambulance.

I did end up having mu chemotherapy today through the PICC line and it was so much better.

I got a senior nurse looking after me and she was absolutely amazing.  I was so pleased.  She was so patient and took her time with everything.

How are you feeling and getting on?xx

  • Sorry to hear that you became unwell and that your chemo got delayed. However, it's good to hear that you have now had your first full cycle of chemo. Hopefully you won't have too many side effects like myself. I've now had 2 cycles of chemo and have my 3rd next Monday. I had my port fitted last Wednesday, which was an experience. I had assumed I would get sedated, but ended up with a local anaesthetic and gas and air only. Hope all goes well for you moving forward. Xx

  • I'm glad you managed to get the port fitted. That's a shame, I hope your next treatment feels ok now that you have the port.

Feeling nausea and indigestion at the moment but hoping it won't last long. I start 8 days of injections. I'm petrified as I hate needles xx

Your treatments are coming around quickly. It be all done before you know it xx

Thank you and I hope yours does too. Let me know how you get on throughout your journey xx

  • I have to have a week of injections as well. My husband does them for me, into my stomach. I don't watch and hardly feel anything. I know some people get side effects from these injections, but they don't seem to affect me at all. Hopefully they won't give you any problems either. Xx

  • Crikey you are having quite the time of it, glad the chemo went well with the picc line!

Ach no further on.. 5wks since my oncologist appointment and no word of a CT scan or anew oncologist. I feel somewhat abandoned! Xx

  • Omg,  I'm so sorry to hear this.  This is the last thing you need.

Have you tried ringing the triage department at the hospital, to chase up the appointment?xx

  • I bit the bullet last week and emailed my BCN, she said I've got a new oncologist and she would chase him up. Yesterday I got my appointment through to see him to discuss treatment. It's in 3wks.

    How are you getting on?

  • Aah, that's good news that you have finally had some answers. Hopefully you will be able to get it all sorted when you see your new Oncologist and make a start on your treatment xx

My hair has all matted since Sunday and coming out in clumps everyday since then. I've lost about 70% of my hair using the cold cap already so I'm now going to get my hair shaved on Friday and ditch the cold cap.

I'm very tired/exhausted but a part from that I'm ok. I've got my appetite back now and eating probably more than I was before chemotherapy xx
