Chemotherapy

Hi,

I am due to start chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Please could any share their experiences.  I'm a nervous wreck, unsure whether to carry on working etc... scared of the side effects etc.

Is the pain really bad?

Any experience would be much appreciated.

Thank you

  • They gave me a headband and conditioner for the cold cap. They said the chemotherapy itself is only 20-30 minutes.  I will be given strong anti sickness tablets an hour before treatment. Then I will be given tablets for three days after treatment to help with energy. Then the day after I've had my final tablet, I will need injections for 3 days in my stomach.  Its alot to take in.

The nurse showed me the cold cap and said it will stay on 30 hours before and 1.5 hours after treatment

  • How are you feeling now? Hope you're ok x

  • Hi Anjaya, I'm actually doing really well thank you. I've been lucky having minimal side effects. A bit of constipation and tiredness. I did also have a sore tongue for a couple of days and a slight backache. I finished the 7 day course of injections yesterday, so can enjoy the next 10 days, before I have the next cycle. Good luck with your treatment, hopefully you'll be lucky like me with minimal side effects. Xx

  • I'm glad it went well for you and that you are getting the cold cap.

I got told my chemotherapy will be 4hrs each day!

Anyway hope the lack of too many side effects continues x

  • It's so much to cope with right enough, sending you hugs x

  • Sorry for the confusion I've replied to you both in one message

  • Do you have a date for starting your chemotherapy yet?

I've got to have a CT scan first make sure I'm not already riddled with it

  • I'm so pleased you had minimal side effects. Yes, try and take it easy for the next 10 day xx

Thank you,  I will keep you posted xx

  • I start on the 21st March. I think I just need to get the 1st one out the way.

Mines 3.5 hours but that includes cold cap and anti sickness tablets do only 20-30minures of the actual chemotherapy x

4 hours without the cold cap? X

When is your CT scan? Fingers crossed for you x

  • No word as yet, I've to have a complete check up with my dentist which is next Monday.

Not one person I've seen from my initial diagnosis has mentioned the possibility of using a cold cap. Just that I'm going to lose my hair.

I know that the hospital I'm to have the chemo in did have one back in 2022, as I saw a post online from some one who was using it then.

I've emailed my BC nurse to ask if the hospital has one and if it's an option.

I'm thinking maybe they don't have one in the hospital I've been attending for my appointments so that why it hasn't been mentioned. I'm hoping that's the reason.

Will be thinking of you on the 21st and sending you good thoughts x
